Candidate: Catherine Yass, an artist represented in the collection of the Deutsche Bank, has been nominated for the Turner Prize.
It’s finally time: the candidates for this year’s Turner
Prize have been nominated in London. Among those nominated are the
film and photo artist Catherine Yass, whose works, such as Bankside:
Cherrypicker, have been part of the collection of the Deutsche Bank
for some time. Yass, who was nominated for the prize along with Fiona Banner,
Liam Gillick, and Keith Tyson, attracted considerable attention this year
both with her one-person exhibition at the London gallery aspreyjacques
and as the British representative at the 10th Indian Triennial. The artist,
who was born in 1963, studied at Goldsmith College; she became known for
her brilliantly colorful photographic light boxes addressing architectural
and social themes. The nomination of the young Briton confirms the collecting
concept of the Deutsche Bank, whose goal is to promote promising young
talent and to set a sign through purchasing their works. The announcement
of the prizewinner will be taking place on December 8 in the Tate Britain
and will be broadcast live on Channel 4 in British television.
